The check engine light keeps coming on. Was told it is an engine misfire. My husband wants to change the spark plugs to fix the problem. Will this help? If not, what will solve the problem?

A misfire is common and usually new plugs, wires, cap, and rotor take care of it. However, there are other things that can cause it. I would start with the tune up to see if takes care of it. If the code is specific to one particular cylender, you can start by changing that one plug and wire to see if it takes care of it. If it doesn't, let me know.
