I recently took my Intrepid to the local mom and pop shop who have always been good to me. They gave me a price quote for having the catalytic converter and oil pan gasket repaired/replaced for $600. I've been told that it shouldn't be that expensive, at least not for the catalytic converter if I take it to a muffler shop that specializes in fixing that item. Can anyone give me an approximate price range for these things? Thanks!

Hi:
Did they give you a break down on the cost? An aftermarket converter should run around 150 dollars, the pan gasket around 10 dollars. That leaves the rest to labor. 440. Sounds like a lot. How many hours are are the saying it will take? Keep in mind, they will need to do an oil change on it too.

After doing a little digging I found around the same price range for the parts that you just mentioned. I believe they said the converter was going to be around $250 and I don't remember how much the gasket would be to fix. I definitely don't remember the $10 figure. Knowing this shop it would probably be a day or two just because they don't have a lift and it's a husband/wife team. I thought it sounded a little too high also, thanks for the input! Now I can get my car fixed and put more money toward my vacation! :)
