1999 Dodge Intrepid 95777 miles

I have a 1999 Dodge intrepid that seems to have a mind of its on. When I am driving on the interstate, the engine all of a sudden cuts off. I had it in the shop oce already and they replaced the idle sensor. I thought it had fixed the issue, but then it died again today on the interstate while I was giving it gas. The mechanic seems to think it is the fuel pump now but Im not sure. I dont want to have to keepreplacing parts that may not need to be fixed. The mechanic stated that before when the car was in the shop it had a full tank of gas in it so the gas was keeping the pump cool. Now that I have driven the car some and its down to a half of tank of gas, the pump is not staying cool and shutting the car off until it can cool off again. Does this sound right? Or could it be a different problem? Please Help[

Hello,

Well, it could be true. If the Pump is going bad. Otherwise is it not true, because if it was no vehicle would get down past 1/2 tank.

Now, has the engine light come on and stayed on? If so go by your local parts store and ask them to pull codes, write them down and post here in forum.

Also what time frame, driving distance do you go before engine dies?

When was last time Fuel Filter was changed?

Today it died after about 9 miles of driving. Not sure when the fuel filter was changed, the mechanic was going to check that as well. The chek engine light is not coming on and when it is hooked up to the computer nothing is showing up wrong.

Ok, Does it start back up after sitting for few minutes?

If so would say it could be either the fuel filter or another possibility would be a faulty Gas Cap. So, try leaving the gas cap loose and drive it if all has been corrected them replace gas cap.

If still dies then would suggest fuel filter be replaced.
