Transmission problem
1999 Dodge Intrepid 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

The gear shift has been tight lately. Especially when it is cold. It has been very cold here, and I went out and started the car, but I could not get it to shift. I pulled hard on it to take it out of park, and all of a sudden it pulled down very easy. Only thing is that no other gears work, and it is always in park. Is there some way I can take the cowling off around gear shift lever to see if I broke a cable or what the problem

Open the hood and check to see if the linkage on the transmission is moving when you have a helper shift.

Let me know what you find.
