Recently we were driving the car and all of the gauges quit working and the check engine light came on. We took the car to the Dodge garage and they said that it would be probably $1400 to fix it because the Body Control Module was bad and possibly the main computer and or instrument cluster. We brought it home and acquired another BCM and installed it, same problem, no gauges (tach, Speedo, temp, but do have fuel). Also the car seems to be running really rough at idle. Toned out the harness connecting the BCM to the Instrument cluster and all appears well. Replaced the Instrument cluster and it still doesn't work. Performing a diagnostic test on the instrument cluster (holding down the odometer reset while ignition on/off) will make all the guages and lights come on and move. Hooked the car up to a code reader and didn't get any codes. So it looks like all that is left is the PCM. Before I get one is there anything else I should try?

Are you sure the BCM you got is good? Was it new? This really sounds like a problem with it.

It wasn't new. I suppose it might be a problem with that, but it seems like it would be somewhat rare to have the same problem with a different BCM. Do you think I should try and get a different one?

I agree with you. It does seem odd, but you never know. Especially if it was used. It could be the instrument panel itself.
