Hello. I have a '97 Dodge Intrepid with 188k miles on it. The engine and transmission both have 100k on them. My problem is that my transmission wont shift out of first gear. When I try to go faster than 15mph, it shifts to neutral and wont shift back. I know that this is an extremely common problem in Dodge Intrepids. I've searched the internet and have found hundreds of these same complaints, but have yet to find a solution. I've heard people say they've replaced their TCM, so I gave it a shot. No luck. I've heard other suggestions, but they all had poor feedback. The TCM seemed the most promising and it didn't work for me.

I'm 100% it's not the transmission going out. Doesn't feel like it at all, and the symtoms sound more like an electrical problem, anyway. None-the-less, I'm going to rebuild the transmission myself this weekend if I cant find a solution. You're pretty much my last hope.. Thanks.

It sounds more like the trans control module. Have you checked it? Also, I agree that it doesn't sound like a bad trans but rather an electrical problem.
