The engine fan does not come on during driving unless I turn on the heating system, thus causing the engine to over heat. I have had the sensor replaced and the temperature gauge still rises.

The engine coolant temp sensor is what will mostlikely be the problem, but as you have stated you replaced "the sensor", check the thermostat. It may be partially opened, not allowing the coolant to get hot enough to trigger the fan.

Hi guys.

Also be aware there are two coolant temperature sensors. The single wire one is for the dash gauge. You want the two-wire sensor for the engine computer. If you unplug it while the engine is running, the fan should turn on. The Check Engine light will turn on too, but the diagnostic fault code will erase automatically after about 50 engine starts. The light will go off too when the sensor is reconnected.
