1995 Dodge Intrepid Quit working

1995 Dodge Intrepid 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

The car first ran out of gas and after it was refilled the motor started making a funny noise when it was running. And when it is put into gear the motor stalls out. From what I am told it has a knocking sound. I need some ideas as to what it can be.

It may be knocking if there is a misfire. Have you checked fuel pump pressure since this happened? Have you replaced the fuel filter?
