I have a 2002 Durango with about 48,000 miles. I recently started usung full synthetic oil (Penzoil). Will this help in the life of the engine? Also, I need to change the diff fluid. What is the best fluid to use? Is synthetic good (maybe Royal Purple) or should I use OEM fluid?

don't use syn. it eats the seals and will start leaking. as for the gear lube call a dealership and just ask. i can't understand why you need this at such low miles. do you drive it in deep water alot? i think i would get the front end checked, there is a recall...
