when i turn on the AC, it makes a horrible clicking sound, almost sounds like I am driving a diesel. but the air is still cold and blows well. turn on heater and noise is gone and hot air works too. some people say the compressor is going out and others say I need freeon.

Is the clicking coming from the compressor clutch kicking on and off fast? NOTE: low freon will do that. Also, a bad clutch can do the same. Let me know if that is what is happening.
