Does the compressor turn at all or does it lock up when you turn the AC on? Chances are the the compressor is locked up and not the clutch.

the compressor is fine the clutch won't turn like it should. when i turn on the fan for the a/c the clutch won't engage and let the system run. and it smokes when it trys to run. there is no smell inside the vehichel. i have changed them on semi's but not in a car that is why i asked if you can just change the clutch.

Chances are you will need to go to a dealer or a salvage yard. It won't be an aftermarket part (at least to the best of my knowledge).

As far as other years, if the compressor has the same part number, I would say okay, but we really recommend staying with direct fit parts.
