For fuel pump and/or filter removal, you will have to remove the fuel tank. Here are two guides to help you step by step.

and

You could but it's more trouble in the end, probably take longer to do this than replace the stock fuel pump. Would have to find a fuel pump that not only pushes but also pulls, since it would have to pull fuel from the tank into the pump and then push it onward, all of this having to be done at a specific fuel pressure also. You would also have to relocate all of the fuel pump wiring.

I Just replaced my fuel pump and now it cranks but after running for 20 mins or more. When I turn my durango off it just turns over but doesn't crank. Go back next morning my durango cranks again. Then after 20mins or more of running my Durango will not crank?

Car will periodically not start but is not a starter issue, that has been replaced recently - we don't think it is bad gas but for the past 4 days, the car would not start and then this morning, it started immediately and ran fine. This same thing happened 2 weeks ago, one minute it was running fine - then turned it off and when attempted to start again, it wouldn't and then a couple of days later - it was fine. Does that sound like fuel pump? Car also has new battery.

Could be. Next time won't start try knocking on the fuel tank. This will jar the fuel pump and if pump is faulty, this will almost always cause the pump to start again.

Next time it happens-don't wait for nothing-do below to determine if its fuel or spark issue.

Get a helper disconnect a sparkplug wire or 2 and ground it to the engine -have helper crank engine over-do you have a snapping blue spark? If so-you have a fuel related problem, check the fuel pressure to rule out the fuel filter/fuel pump/pressure regulator and listen to the injector/s are they pulsing or hook up a noid light. No snapping blue spark continue to troubleshoot the ignition system-power input to the coil/coil packs, coil's resistances, distributor pick-up coil, ignition control module, cam and crank sensors and computer Note: If it doesn't apply disregard it

You may have a bad IAC ( idle air control) but try cleaning the throttle body first. Remove the intake snorkel, have someone hold the throttle wide open for you and scrub the back side of the throttle plate and surrounding bore with an old tooth brush and some carb cleaner. Be sure to spray some into the small holes next to the throttle plate. That should help stabilize the idle. If it still has a problem, replace the IAC.

Yeah they are pricy.I prefer to use the oem brand on them. They have the regualtor, pump and sending unit all rolled into one.

Unknown factors will be the strap and line issues.

Independents use differnent pricing matrixs, talk to them about the cost first.

Thank you for your quick response. It cranks about 4-5 times in the morning. It is at the dealer and they are thinking the fuel pump. I have the small V-8 - 5.9. 2WD. They are suppose to do a diagnostic test, but can't find the problem yet.
