my 98 Durango is not shifting into 3rd gear rpms get to 3000-3500

Has the check engine light come on? This could be caused by a bad shift solenoid. Also, is the fluid clean and full?

If the light is on, there will be a code stored in the computer. Take it to a nationally recognized parts store and have them scan it for you. Most will do it for free, and then you will know where the problem is coming from.
