identify power steering pump

i need to purchase a power steering pump for my 2001 dodge dakota,4wd, 4.7L,auto. they tell me that it shows 2 types, a 17mm and 18 mm shaft, how do i know which one it is , without removing my old one, because i dont have a back up vehicle to drive....i see no numbers on the pump.The truck has 195k on it, so any lables on it are buried

If you have a pair of calipers or dial indicators you may be able to get to the face,of the shaft.

If not, call the dealer parts dept. withthe last nine digits of the vin, and they may be able to tell you.

Or buy both and return the one you don't use.
