2005 Dodge Dakota

A low grade hum could be coming from several things. It could be a bearing, tires, caused by a trans or motor mount...

Do you always hear the sound? Does it get louder if you are turning left or right? Does the truck have an automatic or manual transmission? Has the differential fluid been checked for level and leaks?

Just when I accerlerate. Automatic tran. Does not get louder when I turn. Have not checked diff. fluid level. No apparent leaks.

Based on what you're saying, it sounds like it may be a bearing within the transmission or the differential. Also, it may be as simple as a transmission or engine mount that has collapsed causing the transfer of engine / transmission noise to go throughout the vehicle. If you have your oil changed at a quick lube, have them check the drive line fluids (transfer case / differentials). Also, ask if they can check the transmission and motor mounts while they are under the vehicle.

Took the truck to an instant oil change place like you suggested. They did find a small leak in the rear end. I took it to the dealership and they said too that it had a leak but that was not the problem fore all fluids still looked good. They believe there is a bad pinion in the drive shaft. Thankfully all of this is still covered in the power train warranty. Still crossing my fingers that it turns out right.

I'm glad that you found out what it was. I had a feeling that it was a bearing. At first I thought in the differential (which is where the pinion bearing is located) but with only 50K on the truck, I questioned it.
