When driving on cruise control on level ground the tachometer, for no apparent reason, frequently drifts higher, by up to 600 RPM. E.G. At 50 MPH it should read 1400 RPM but, from there, it might drift as high as 2000 RPM. I can correct the situation by pulling the gear-shift lever into 2 and back into 3. The tach then immediately returns to 1400.

The dealer originally said the diagnostic code indicated a problem in the transmission but they didn’t believe it so they, instead, re-booted the computer. That didn’t solve the problem so, on a return visit, the dealer tells me there is no problem. The transmission is acting as it should. I don’t believe it is. What do you think?

I agree with you there is a problem. It is most likely a speed sensor or one of the others that shift the trans. Take it to a reputable trans shop and get their opinion.

Let me know what you find.

Thanks. I believe you are both correct. What I have done, in the meantime, is write to Chrysler explaining the problem and asking for their help. Hopefully they will send me to thier best transmission man in my area and he will solve the problem. It's not an urgent situation so I will give Chryco another chance, then off to an independent.
