Drive Train Axles Bearings problem
2001 Dodge Dakota V8 Two Wheel Drive Manual

Hello, I just traded my 74 3/4 ton 4 door d200 for a 2001 dakota 4.7 5 speed. The rear screams, it does not change w/ engine spd, or w/you clutch.I am afraid if the gear locks up, it will throw truck out of control.I have built a few rides, but what do I do?Please help, Thank you, Fellow Gearheads? The sound is specific w/ vech spd not rpms thanks.P.S. 3.92 gear

Hi:
It sounds like a bearing problem. Have you checked for up and down play at the pinion bearing? That would be my first guess. It could be an axle bearing but most times you end up with a axle seal leak.

Let me know what you find with the pinion bearing. Also, you may want to remove the diff cover and get a good look inside to check for shavings and the condition of the gear lube.

I crawled under truck @ shook rear yoke, up@down, no movement, however, front (at trans)moved a little@is leaking a little from trans. Maybe U-Joint?Checked gear lube, in rear, seemed ok, may replace w/lucas. The 9 1 4 unit also leaks from plug, plastic, mopar said a new one might stop it(might not). Leak is from tailshaft on 5 spd. Thanks All!I just don't want to see a locked up diff on intenstate, I dont want to wreck anyone. Haven't pulled cover yet, a man I know said carrier brg, thx
