Transmission problem
2000 Dodge Dakota V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic 120K miles

We have a grinding noise under the bed of our truck. And also it is having problems going into gear properly. We changed the Brake shoes thinking that was it (suggesion from a mechanic that is friend of the family) and it is still having the same problem. At this point we think it may be the transmission.....what do you think?

Hi:
Is the grinding noise all the time? Also, have you checked for play at each end of the drive shaft?

As far as the transmission, don't jump to conclusions. I'm not saying there isn't a problem there, but make sure it isn't a pinion bearing or output shaft bearing.
