how much would it cost to replace the lifters and camshaft for a 4.7 liter v8 magnum if i had it done by a mechanic? is this something i could do my self?

Where are you located? Replacing the cam and lifters can be a very labor intense job. In Pennsylvania, one would expect to pay around $250 in labor plus parts. Parts, based on what type you want, would start around $200.
