How much would it cost to replace the lifters and camshaft for a 4.7 liter v8 magnum if I had it done by a mechanic? Is this something I could do my self?

Where are you located? Replacing the cam and lifters can be a very labor intense job. In Pennsylvania, one would expect to pay around $250 in labor plus parts. Parts, based on what type you want, would start around $200.

Does that help?

I'm sorry. I forgot to answer your second question. If you have a general understanding of mechanics, a good tech publication like Chilton, and the tools, You may be able to complete it.
