Engine Performance problem
2000 Dodge Dakota 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic

i drive my dakota for 4-5 minutes starts to mis and fart turn truck off start right back up works fine does not seem like it has lots of power thinking I should replace fuel filter. Dealer(parts dept)tells me is it in fuel tank can any-one confirm this or tell me what I should be looking at thanks peter

Hi:
Yes the dealer is correct. But, after you restart the truck, does it run correctly after that or does it follow the same sequence? Also, is the check engine light on? To start you may want to have the computer scanned at a nationally recognized parts store. Most will do it for free. Let me know if they find any trouble code.

The truck seems to run fine when I strart it back up but seems to lack power the service engine light is not on even turning key to retrive codes nothing

Hi
I believe that after 1996, you need to have the computer scanned. Pre 97, you could roll the key. Take it to a nationally recognized parts store like Auto Zone. And ask them to scan it. It's free to have done, and it may help us.

If I had to guess at this point, I would most likely be wrong, but my gut feeling is that you have a MAP sensor on its way out.

Let me know what you find after having it scanned.
