2000 Dodge Dakota replacing front sway bar bushings

i recently purchased 2 new sway bar bushings for my 2000 dakota front sway bar. Do i split them? they are solid (urethane i guess), and before i slice them I want to make sure this is correct. Otherwise I guess I would have to remove the entire sway bar.
