2000 Dodge Dakota

I have a 2000 Dodge Dakota V6 3.9l, I'm having trouble starting up my truck most of the time after working an 8 hr shift when I turn the key repeatedly after awhile sometimes up to 20 minutes later it starts up and runs fine all the way home, but this is really frustrating, I've had the starter and the alternator tested at a nearby auto parts store and they tested good. I've also had it diagnostic tested and they could not see any problems. So i'm at my wits end with this if you could please point out any areas that may correct my problem I would appreciate it thanks, Ray

After your truck is turned off, a check valve in the fuel system holds the 50 pounds of pressure needed behind the injectors. So if it is leaking pressure internally because of any failure to hold pressure it is a long hard start, sometimes. It just may be an old fuel pump, or leaking injector. The engine needs to start-up, and see a crankshaft sensor signal to keep the fuel on. I would test fuel pressure. It has no code setting ability. By turning the key to the on position the pump runs then tines out by the PCM. So if you keep turning it to run, off, run, off, you'll hear the pump. Wait a few seconds to change key positions. It could be something else but it depends on the fuel pressure test. And when the pump and filter were last replaced.
