Tires and Wheels problem
1999 Dodge Dakota V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

The spare has not been removed in about 3yrs. Now I have to get it off, but the cable system that holds it in place won't work (broken?). How can I get the spare off without damaging the aluminum rim?

Hi:
I recommend spraying the cable and gear assembly with WD40 or the =. Allow it to sit over night, tap on everything lightly with a hammer and see if it works. If it doesn't, you'll have to cut the cable.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks Joe, but the tire is in the way. I can't even see any of the assembly. I think I'll have to cut the bracket that holds the tire up.
