1998 Dodge Dakota PCM Problems?

1998 Dakota Sport 2.5L standard transmission, Recently replaced head gasket due to overheating. Head checked out and cylinders also good, problem is truck missing at lower RPM and lack of power. Reset all adaptives with scanner and truck ran fine for a while (an hour or so). Problem returned, changed battery and truck ran fine for a bit longer (couple of hours) now problem is back and am considering replaceing PCM, this is a factory flashed item and quite exspensive, I see a few TSB's concerning PCM and reprogramming of PCM. Would replacing PCM be the logical choice, or what else could cause this problem? Any help would be greatly appriciated....

The PCM depend on information sent to it by sensors to determine the derivability of the engine
I would monitor the sensors
suspect bad O2 sensor
