Why is there gas in my engine oil?

If could be caused by a couple things. First, the engine has a lot of miles on it and may not be burning all the fuel. Thus, it gets by the rings. Also, it could be running very rich allowing too much fuel to enter the cylenders.

Have you ever noticed a rich smell to the exhaust or seen black smoke from the exhaust?
