I recently bought a used 1998 Dodge Dakota Pickup for $3000 from the honda dealership,I've had it for about three and half weeks I've been having trouble with it.me and my wife was driving to the dealership when the truck just cut off, we let the dealer mechanic look it and he said the engine had locked up.what i want to know is, what made the engine lock up and what is the cost to replace the engine.

The engine could lock up for many reasons. The most common would be a lack of oil. Other reasons such as abuse, coolant in oil, or just worn out could be some other reasons.

As far as the proce of repair will be determined by you. If you get a used engine, new, or remaufactured will determine the total amount. Most likely, based on where you live, labor will be between 3 and 5 hundred dollars. The engine its self will range from around 3 hundred to the thousands.

If you're concerned about a price, let me know what state you're in and the amount being charged. I'll do my best to help you determine if you're being over charged. Also, let me know if the engine is used or new.
