San I replace the pully on the air compressor without changing the whole thing? Just the pulley, bearing and belt? The pu;ey is locking up and I think will trow the belt off and cause more damage. Thank you so much

Hi:
I'm not sure what you're asking. If the belt comes off, yes other problems could occur.

It sounds like the compressor is in the process of locking-up. Because the AC also helps defrost the windshield during the winter months, I recommend you have it fixed or replaced. However, if you want to drive the truck without AC, just unplug the compressor and it will stop locking-up with the AC and defroster on.

If you have any other specific questions, let me know.

Joe

Thanks Joe for your answer. BUT, it locks up when the air isn't turned on? I haven't had my defroster or heat working for over a year now. It just stopped working.I live in Florida so I haven't got around to fixing it I have had so many other problems with my truck. The air blows cold when I turn it on? The pulley just locks? Then starts working again.I was told by a mechanic that I could just replace the bearing and pulley and belt. What do you think? It is over 250.00 just to do that.I found a new compressor for 550.00 installed. Don't have the money right now as I just had the tranny rebilt and new brain.1900.00. And new tires and tranny cooler, radiater and water pump. And lost two members of my family I had to help with as they had no life insurance. Any other "cheap" suggestions? By the way.A very good name you have. Same as my brother Joe who just passed away. Thank you so much! Rose

Hi Rose:

I am so sorry to hear about your brother, Joe. Were you really close to him? I know you may not believe it, but I really do feel that way. I have very sick parents, and it's only a matter of time for the one. What is even more interesting is that my sister's name is Rose. You have my deepest sympathy.

As far as the truck, it sounds like a bearing problem. If the mechanic will guarantee his work, I would go with that. Make sure you get it in writing.

Let me know if you ever need help in the future. I'll be here.

Thanks for the info about my truck.I will definitely get something in writing if I just get the bearing and pulley done. Or anything else. Soo sorry about your parents, Joe. It is a hard thing giving them up to The Good Lord.I lost my Daddy at 57 years old. My Mama isn't doing well at all, grieving herself to death over her children.I have been in Florida for 4 years now and have lost 3 brothers and my precious sister since I have been here. My brother Joe passed away at 53 on the 4th of August this year and my sister Dot( Ida Carolyn) was found dead on her couch the 19th of October. No foul play but no coroners report yet? My little brother Elmer died April 5th 2006 and my brother Ronnie 2004. Has been tough. YES, my brother Joe and I were so close.I held his hand til he died.I tried to take care of him the best I could the last months of his life. He was one special guy and I miss him so. He sure loved me. He was a real good man and a wonderful brother. My sister who passed just turned 49 in Sept. And my brother Elmer was 48 and Ronnie was 53. There was nine of us children.I feel so bad for my poor mother. She is a real good mama and loves us so much.I don't know why I am telling you all this? You must have a real good heart to ask about my family. Rose is a nice name, too. Ha! My other brother's are Sam, James and Homer Darryl and sister Betty Yvonne. Just curious if any more family names are the same : ) Thanks for asking and thanks for answering my questions about my "LEMON!" It has been a good truck, just expensive and I need to trade it in but just can't right now. SO long for now. God Bless, Joe. Take care of yourself. Rose, in Saint Petersburg
