Hi! I've had my little truck since 94 and she's been a great vehicle all these years. Now I'm going to have to replace the starter motor (just clicks when I turn the key) and am wondering how difficult this is going to be. Any hints on doing the job? Any recommendations as to which starter motor to use?

Thanks!

Hi, I'd make sure the battery has a full charge and the connections are good. The clicking sounds usually means, low voltage. If low voltage at starter, changing the starter won't help. I don't know if you've done any testing?

Hi jsdl123--this is great information! No, I haven't done any testing but I sure will on my way home from work today. If it is low voltage, does that mean a new alternator or voltage regulator?

Appreciate your getting back to me so quickly!

Some of the national brand autostores will check battery and charging system. Are there any trouble codes?

I'm not sure what you mean by trouble codes. I haven't gotten any 'check-engine'-type lights.

I really appreciate your helping me with this.

You may be able to get some mil codes by cycling the ignition switch. You turn key just till dash lites come on, no further. Cycle the key, on--off, on--off, on, then the mil starts flashing, you count the flashes to get the codes. Your looking for two digit codes.
