1992 dakota when you go to back up and step on the brakes more then once they get hard to push acts like a bad brake booster but not in drive

If there is no problems in drive I would remove the rear drums and look at the self adjusting system. It operates in reverse to keep the rear shoes adjusted automatically. I think there may be something wrong there. OK Good Luck.
You may need lubrication or just a new set of shoes. With no material left it will feel hard like that.
