1989 Dodge Colt 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive 160, 00 miles

Tonight my Colt's radiator was pretty much empty when I put a gallon of antifreeze, and another gallon of water in it. I had not checked it for a long time, though I knew it had a leak. I very seldom drive it--sometimes only once a month, but the last two times I drove it, it was fine. No overheating. After I filled the radiator, I turned it on, and it started to sound VERY rough. I turned it off, then on again, and it made a bad loud sound and died. I tried it again and it turned over a couple times and made another bad sound and died. The radiator had leaked about a pint or so, which I mopped up, putting a pan under it. I am afraid it threw a rod or two, though no light was on and it had not run long enough to overheat or even warm up. Is this possible? I have to have someone look at it, but it cost only $550 three years ago, plus what it cost to fix a few things and get it smogged. Itis not a big financial loss, but I don't have another car which will travel on the highway. I have an all-electric G.E.M. Car, which also needs work. Light on this would be appreciated.

HI there,

You will have to get a few basic tests done on the engine, comp test, cooling system pressure test and if it will run a head oil pressure test, but it dose sound rather sick and it may not be very cost efficient to spend the dollars on it, maybe just have the tests done first and see what the extent of the repairs are.
