Did you get this fixed yet? My '72 had the sliding contact weld itself to the coiled wire in the dimmer rheostat. When I tried to adjust it, the contact finger bent and it pulled part of the coil out. I pulled the coil out to make room to bend the contact back to its proper position, then embedded the coil in epoxy to reset it. The dash lights work fine now, but be warned, the epoxy stunk for a couple of months whenever the lights were turned on.
