2006 Dodge Caravan Malfunction Indicator light

We have a 2006 Dodge caravan. The malfunction indicator light stays on and the gas peddle is sticky. Are these two incidents related (gas peddle lead to the light being on. If so how is it repaired? Or are these two separate incidents?
