Engine stalls while driving? starts right back up?

If its shutting off codes may be stored. There is a "scan engine" section which explains how to see if your not getting a crankshaft sense or other problem. It's under 'site menu'. If you get any codes, it will help. ok

When we try and start the van it wont start but know when we are driving and come to a stop light it almost stalls

Sounds like the battery might have been disconnected or run dead recently. If so, the Engine Computer lost its memory and has to relearn "minimum throttle" before it will know when it must be in control of idle speed. It also might not give you the normal "idle flare-up" to 1500 rpm when you start the engine. To meet the conditions for the relearn to take place, drive at highway speed with the engine warmed up, then coast for at least seven seconds without touching the brake or gas pedals.

My car shut off on me in the process of making a turn what we be the cause of that?

Have you tested the battery, checked the alternator and starter?

If it cranks good but won't start, have a helper crank it, while check for spark at the spark plugs. If you have spark everywhere, use a gage and check fuel pressure.

2005 Dodge Caravan 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I have a 2005 Grand Caravan with approx 58K miles. My problem is that the engine stalls after travelling approx 1/8 mile after every fuel fill up. I always shut the engine off during fill ups, tighten the gas cap at least 2 clicks, then start the van. Approx 1/8 mile after leaving the gas station, the engine develops serious misfire, sometimes dying completely. After restarting, and nursing it through the misfire period, the problem goes away, only to reappear at the next fill up. The gas cap seal has been checked and is ok. Is this a fuel pump issue, or fuel recovery system problem? I'm perplexed. Please help

Thanks to more and more federal mandates, there is a system to monitor for fuel system leaks and to control expanding fuel vapors. Part of the vapor recovery system draws in the stored vapors until they can be burned in the engine. The engine computer is programmed to expect additional fuel when the "purge" system is being operated. Over-filling the tank allows liquid fuel to enter the vapor recovery tube near the top of the filler pipe. This raw liquid fuel presents way more fuel, by volume, than the computer expects and it can't adjust regular fuel metering to an acceptable level. The engine is getting too much fuel until the liquid is sucked out of the recovery system.

To prevent over-filling, when the pump clicks off, just finish out the dollar or the gallon and don't stuff any more fuel in. Some manufacturers go so far as to require you to not add any fuel at all once the pump kicks off.

MY check engine light came on while I was driving and the motor shut down just as the light came on. I tried to start the car afterwards but the engine doesn't turn over. What could be the proble?

First thing would be to get codes read and post here.

Possibilities....

Cam Sensor
Crank Sensor
TPS (Throttle Position Sensor)
Fuel Pump
Ignition Coil
Broken Timing Belt

There are other possibilities. Getting codes read will help in reducing these possibilities.

Every time I fill up with gas the engine stall as I drive away from the station. often more than once. Doesn't make a difference what station or Octane I use. After I drive for a few (10 t0 20) minutes, I don't have any problems until I fill up again. I don't overfill the car just fill till the pump turns off. Seems like it has an airlock. Thanks for any help you can give.

I think it may be more the fuel pump then anything else. You could try changing parts but see if it's fuel pressure your losing by using a guage. The cap would not give you that type of problems but the weight of the fuel on the pump might. Have the computer tested for fault codes. I saw no service bulletins concerning this, and you would smell gas fumes if you had a vapor lock problem. ok

When I fill the gas tank to full, the car will occasionally stall.

I believe that the valve that goes to the vapor canister is faulty and may be allowing an overfill condition. I know in other vehicles that this valve is called an ORVR, but I cannot identify it @ Chrysler's website or other parts suppliers.

I know that some fuel pumps have this feature as a component of the fuel pump module, but this does not appear to be the case on this vehicle.

I am having difficulty identifying the specific component that is faulty.

The check engine light identified the egr valve, which I already replaced, but the light went back on.

Is there a valve that can be ordered to fix the issue OEM or otherwise?

I am trying to avoid a $400+ repair bill for something that appears to be a simple fix.

An evaporative emissions purge solenoid is the valve that's controlled by the PCM and purges the vapors into your engine when temperature and speed all meet up and the computer operates this solenoid valve. It's not supposed to allow a purge so fast after a restart. Also if broken, they usually cause a purge all the time.
It's referred to as an evap. purge solenoid, hases two vacuum hoses and a 2 wire connector on it. If you follow the one vacuum hose it leads to the vapor cannister and the larger hose coming out of it goes to your intake, you can close this off to check it. Also the EGR systym uses the same type of setup. See what the code says now. This evap solenoid is mounted on the right side of the engine compartment. Both are PCM controlled and I wouldn't want another sensor to be causing both. I just wanted you to understand these enission control systems a bit better. Good luck, I can't say I blame you for saving money but the light may need to be reset.

I can put my van in reverse and then put it in drive and start driving then all of a sudden it will rev up and stop. I have to put the van back in park for a few minutes then put it back in drive for it to go. it is also sluggish. and I am scared its gonna die on me when I'm driving.

ok i took it to autozone and they said it was just a loose gas cap. so i still dont know why whats going on is going on. can someone please help me.

does this only happen once after refueling? My only consideration would be that you are mixing up sedament in the tank and then it makes its way into the pump.

The only thing that makes sense to me is the tank must be dirty and you're kicking up dirt. The only way to check is to remove the tank which is a pain. How long does it take for the problem to stop? Does the van restart if it dies? Have you replaced the fuel filter lately? That is where I would start.

yes it will start back up and be fine til we get more gas. we only have had the van for only a couple months. so any way i will change the gas filter but again it only happen after i get gas and i fine all the rest of the time.so if you think of anything let me know
