clicking noise and grinding and had idler arm repaired and it still makes the noise. were told it was the altenator. if so, what would the price be to fix?

Are you sure it is the alt? The idler arm is a steering component. Is the noise coming from the engine area when the engine is running and the car is parked and not moving?
