2005 Dodge Caravan 2005 dodge caravan trans axle

I drive my caravan everyday 35 miles to work and most of the way i'm driving up hill on an incline.My van started to jump from drive to passing gear erraticly and I have to slow down so I don't blow the transmission.At times now I have to slow down to let the trans mission shift.I took it to a transmission place to have it checked and they had a hard time to get it to shift erratic,but they did.I never had a check engine light come on to show any codes.They said with out any codes all they can do is quess so they dropped the pan and found only small amount of metal shavings and clutch material.so they said they didn't think the transmission was bad but believe it was the torque converter,does this sound right to You.
