Noises problem
2005 Dodge Caravan 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

There is a ticking noise in my car. I had the water pump repaced and after that the noise started. I took it back to the dealer and they said that the belts got fluid on them and it should clear up in a little bit. Well it's been about 4 months and it still is making the noise. I took it back and now they say it's the timing chain hitting the housing.
They say it won't hurt it any. I don't believe them and I wanted to know what you think

No it don't change when I speed up. After the engine runs for a while it quits. I just think that if the timing chain is hitting the houseing like they say that it will damage the chain.

If it was the chain, it would speed up or change when the engine speed changes. Also, it would alway make the noise. As far as damage to the chain, there is more likely a chance of damage to the timing chain cover. But I don't think that is the problem.

I wish I could hear it. It would make life much easier. I would like you to try a test. Remove the serp belt that runs all the accessories and start the engine for a few seconde to see if the sound goes away. If it does, then the problem is one of the accessories. If it is still there, then it may be internal.

NOTE: Only run the engine a few seconds with the belt off to prevent overheating and other damage. Just run it long enough to hear if the sound is gone.

Let me know what you find.

Joe
