My van is current experiencing a P1684 code, causing the van to stick in 2nd gear. I can clear the problem by simply re-starting the van. It only happens on first start of the day, or after work when the van has been sitting.

Dealer has tried for 6 days to resolve. They tested battery+ and ground circuits to TCM whlie wiggling harness. 0.15v drop through battery+ circuit from fuse to TCM. 0.07v drop through ground circuits from TCM to chassis ground. Inspected connections at TCM and IPM, all okay. Vehicle scanned and erased DTCs. Installed check bulib on TCM battery+ supply and all okay.

I pickup up the van Friday after 4 days in the shop, and today, on the first start, it was stuck in 2nd. A quick re-start and the problem is cleared and the transmission is fine. I checked the codes onboard and again only get P1684.

I am at wits end over this vehicle. Any advice on next steps would be greatly appreciated.

Hi eppbrya. Welcome to the forum. Normally I don't like throwing parts at a problem, but it sounds like all of the logical first steps have been covered. I would head to the salvage yard and pick up a used Electronic Automatic Transmission Controller (EATX) and try it. Shifting might not feel right at first until the computer learns the characteristics of the transmission, but that should only last for a couple of miles to a dozen shift sequences.
