When I turn the ignition, I get a "click" (intermittant). Sometimes it starts right off and other times, it will take two or three tries.

Docfixit is right about the solenoid. Worn contacts are very common. The problem will gradually get worse. You can replace the contacts for 20 bucks, but most people just replace the entire starter.
