2002 Dodge Caravan Plastic gas tank

Soon after starting engine there are loud popping noises coming from below the rear floor area. I discovered the bottom of the gas tank was being sucked in by the strong vacuum inside the tank. When I remove the filler cap (With difficulty) air rushes in. What would cause this? Thanks.

Do you have check engine light on with engine running
and if so scan for codes
suspect defective EVAP system
