2002 Dodge Caravan heater will not stay warm

If I let the van warm up the heater will blow warm air for about 2 miles down the road then the temp. guage will drop from just above 1/4 down to cold. The thermostate is a new 190 degree one and the antifreeze/water is full in the radiator and in the overflow.
