When I start my van, it will start hard, then sputters and dies. In the beginning, it would clear up as the vehicle warmed up, but fuel smell got worse. Have not driven in month now. Now it will not hardly stay running. I have been told that it is the fuel pressure regulator that is going out by a friend. I want to make sure befor I shell out $200.

Hi, the fact you can smell fuel usually indicates a leak in the system. Have you checked the fuel filter, and/or the entire fuel line? A fuel pressure test will also indicate if the fuel system is leaking somewhere.

Well after a new timing chain, cam positionig sensor, crankshaft positioning sensor, fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, fuel filter, new plugs several times, all new plug wires, I still had the issue. Took it into the shop, come to find out it was the o2 sensor after the Cat converter. Was not putting up an error code, but was not functioning at all creating the ECM to push more fuel. After I changed the rear O2 sensor and a new Cat converter, the car runs fabulously again!
