My car makes a chirping or "loose pulley" noise only when I place the car in gear,ie, drive or reverse. It sounds like it's coming from the passenger side of the engiine. If I place the car in neutral or park the noise goes away. Would this have anything to do with the drive belt?

It sounds like the belt. Have a helper start the engine, place it in gear so it makes the noise while you do the following.

Protect your eyes, cloths... pour a small amount of water on the belt while it is churping to see if the sound changes or stops.

Let me know what you find.
