Transmission problem
2000 Dodge Caravan Engine Size unknown Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 96,000 miles

My mom took her van in for repair. They are replacing the transmission and radiator. We need to make a 400 mile trip (take me home) as soon as possibile. The mechanic told her not to drive it that far and that we need a rent a vehicle to get me home. Is this true? Will it hurt the van to drive it this far after a major repair?

Hi there,

the mechanic doesn't have much confidence in his work, that is a bit scary. It may be that he is concerned that if there is a minor problem that you will not notice and it might become an issue, if this is the case, ask him why you can't drive it. Personally if you check oil and coolant often enough as you should anyway, there should not be a problem.
