I am buying this car from a friend and it has pinging but no reduction in power. He reports that past mechanics have told him the problem could be pre ignition or rocker arm knocking. Is this true, or what is the problem and should I say no to this car? The car did pas state inspection and the transmission was rebuilt a couple years ago.

Hi there,

If the engine is pinning, i would be doing a scan and checking for a faulty knock sensor, do not attempt to adjust the timing by rotating the distributor, the ECU controls engine ignition timing.
