1999 Dodge Caravan 4 cyl 149000 miles

Oil is leaking from my engine. After about three weeks (starting with the correct amount of oil), I had to add a quart. 1st, it was diagnosed as a valve cover gasket. Then, they said it was the cylinder head gasket instead. What do you think? Any ideas? If it is the head gasket, what's a fair amount for labor? 1999 Dodge Caravan

First I would be sure what it is. Purchase a can of engine cleaner, take the can to the car wash, follow the directions on the can, and clean the old oil off the engine. Next, keep and eye on the engine to see where the oil is coming from. Let me know what you find. Also, chances are it's the valve cover. A head gasket replacement on you car could be around 600 dollars. However, make sure that is the problem. Also, if you can't identify where the leak is coming from, most shops can place a dye in the oil and check for leaks with a black light.

Let me know what you find.
