1998 Dodge Caravan Where does the water go?

While I was driving, there seemed to be no problems. As soon as I stopped and the car started to idle, smoke started coming out from the radiator. The car did not show hot. I got home and noticed that the coolant had leaked. We replaced the radiator cap (it was loose) and we also replaced the thermostat. I need to put water in the radiator every morning and the resivour is always empty. I fill and it leaks right out, where does it go? There is no leak in the resivour it's self (we took it out and checked). We also have to change the water pump and the timing belt. I was just wondering where the water goes when I fill it up? Does it go to the water pump because it is leaking?

If you are losing water and see no leak, check the bottom of your water pump. Water pumps have a built in "weep" hole that lets tiny amounts of water to leak out as the inner seal on your water pump start to go. Start the car, let it run a while, shut it off and look on the ground under your water pump.

Reservoirs are made to store and replace water/coolant as it expands and contracts with the heating and cooling down. That's why there is is a huge air space to be left at the top of the tank. As your water leaks out of through the water pump and your system gets low, it sucks it from the reservoir as the system cools down.

If you see no visible leaks, its because the weep hole is weeping it as you drive the car.
