98 Caravan 3.8 with 191K. Always ran fine but has been idling a tad rougher than usual for a couple months.(Just changed plugs/wires a month ago - still rough) No MIL though. Yesterday just after starting when I got on the road it sputtered and backfired and had no acceleration and MIL light flashing. When I'd let off the gas, MIL would go out and it idled ok. Step on the gas and same thing. Pulled over and turned engine off and immediately restarted and all worked fine after that for 250 miles so far. It never did keep the MIL on after that. Question 1...Could an oxygen sensor or EGR cause a rough idle without a MIL light? Question 2.....sputtering/backfire problem seems more like it was starved for fuel but the problem never came back other than the same slightly rough idle. It accelerates as strong as ever. Any ideas?

I would suspect an ignition coil or a bad fuel pump on its way out
