If you can't check for codes, then do some basic tests. Check for spark at the plugs, pull a plug wire off a spark plug, stick a known good plug in the boot. Ground metal part of plug against metal part of engine. Have helper crank the engine while you watch for spark at the tip of the plug, check more than one plug wire. If you have good spark everywhere, check fuel.
