I have owned a 1998 dodge caravan for about four years now. Recently, when I started it up, the engine revved all over the place as if my right foot were having a serious spasm while on the gas pedal. Shifted into reverse, and drive and it continued. I do not have a tachometer, so I can't say for sure that it is the car trying to accelerate, but I know from my years of driving that it is throttle related, perhaps some corrosion or breakage in the throttle body.

I also had the computer module replaced shortly after I bought the van, I don't believe the replacement was new.

Has the check engine light come on? It sounds like the throttle position sensor or idle air control valve is bad, but I can't tell without a code from the computer. If the light is on, have it scanned at a nationally recognized parts store. Most will do it for free so there is no money out of pocket.

Let me know what you find.
